QLD Fisheries (QF), a service of DEEDI currently prevents fish species to be translocated from one catchment area to another; this is done through the issuing of permits. A QF permit is required for each fish stocking program (this includes each impoundment and each species of fish).
For the MISFG this means that South Eastern Gulf strain Barramundi only can be used in stocking programs and a permit is required for each impoundment which is to be stocked. MIFSG have been able to purchase 'gulf strain' fingerlings from the Gulf Barramundi Re-stocking Assoc. (GBRA) hatchery in Karumba, QLD.
