Currently the MIFSG Sooty Grunter Breeding Program is run out of MIFSG executive residences. In the future it is proposed that the groups Hatchery Project will be the mainstay of the breeding program.
For further information on the Xstrata MIFSG Hatchery Project refer to the Hatchery Page.
The MIFSG Sooty Grunter breeding program is supported by an annual grant from QLD Fisheries, a service of DEEDI. Essentially the breeding program is in three parts:
- Capture of broodstock from Lake Julius.
- Spawning in hatchery facilities.
- Grow out at hatchery facilities.
